About the Opera

March 12-14th , OperaLancaster will present one of the world’s most beloved operas, La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini. The opera is directed by Lancaster native and NY Metropolitan Opera singer emeritus, John Darrenkamp, and will be presented in five performances at the Roschel Performing Arts Center at F&M College in Lancaster, PA.

This famous opera tells the story of a small group of poor artistic students and friends living in Paris and the love between one of them (Rodolfo) and a poor seamstress he meets by chance (Mimi). Despite their love, fate and poverty pull them apart until Mimi succumbs to a tragic illness. The music in this opera is some of the most beautiful that Puccini ever wrote, including the famous Musetta’s Waltz.

Principal cast members include accomplished singers from Lancaster, Philadelphia, Baltimore and York County. The superb talent combined an excellent orchestra and spectacular sets and costumes will provide an evening of opera that director Darrenkamp believes will be true to the vision for La Boheme that was originally intended by the composer. The opera will be sung in the original Italian, with projected English translation supertitles.

Tickets for each performance are $35 for adults, with special discounts for senior, groups, and students. They are available for purchase by visiting our website or calling the F&M Box Office.
